Do you want to work at the forefront of quantum technology? Do you have hands-on experience in cleanroom fabrication and a passion for precision, process optimization, and high‑tech innovation? Are you excited to contribute to the development and production of world‑leading superconducting nanowire single‑photon detectors?

Then we invite you to read on and apply!

IN SHORT
Single Quantum (singlequantum.com) develops the world’s fastest and most sensitive light‑detection systems — pushing the limits of physics.

As we continue to scale up our production capabilities, we are expanding our Nanofabrication team. We are looking for a Nanofabrication Engineer to join us at our headquarters in Delft. In this role, you will be directly involved in the fabrication, optimization, and development of nanofabrication processes that form the core of our SNSPD technology.

This is a full‑time position, ideally starting in mid-July/August 2026, and classified under Function Group J (depending on background: Bachelor / Master / PhD).

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Key responsibilities include:
  • Fabricate SNSPD devices in the cleanroom with high precision and reproducibility.
  • Execute standardized nanofabrication production runs.
  • Optimize existing fabrication processes to improve yield, stability, and reproducibility.
  • Develop new fabrication processes and transfer them to newly installed cleanroom equipment.
Daily work takes place primarily in the VLL cleanroom in Delft, with occasional activities in the EKL cleanroom. You will work with a broad set of tools and processes, such as:
  • Electron‑beam lithography
  • Laser writer patterning
  • PECVD / ICPECVD
  • Photolithography
  • Reactive ion etching
  • Sputtering systems
  • Bosch etching
  • Wet bench processes
  • ALD systems
You will collaborate closely with colleagues in Nanofabrication, R&D, and Production to ensure high‑quality device fabrication.
We are looking for someone with:

  • Master’s or PhD in Applied Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or related fields.
  • HBO/Bachelor candidates with several years of cleanroom experience are also considered.
  • Has hands-on experience with different fabrication processes (e.g. e-beam lithography, RIE, Bosch etching) and metrology tools (SEM, AFM).
  • Has strong attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality fabrication.
  • Can work independently within a short timeframe after onboarding.
  • Is a problem solver with hands-on attitude; being able to proactively find solutions using DOE methods and approach problems in a structured systematic way.
  • Has excellent teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate within cross functional environments.
  • Has good organizational and communication skills.
  • Has great sense of responsibility and commitment
  • Has the ability and strong ambition to independently optimize processes.
  • Is proficient in English.
Preferred experience:
  • Prior experience in the VLL or EKL cleanrooms in Delft.
  • Affinity with SNSPD device physics and fabrication.
  • Experience in optimizing nanofabrication processes.
  • Experience in fabricating superconducting devices and photonic devices
Additional notes:
  • Independence is important due to the nature of the role.
  • EU work authorization is required.
  • A collaborative, international team working at the cutting edge of quantum technology.
  • Salary in accordance with the CAO Metalelektro, plus secondary benefits.
  • A comfortable workplace with coffee, fresh fruit, and weekly catered lunches.
  • A solid retirement plan (PME).
  • Up to 40 vacation days per year (full‑time).
  • Plenty of room to share ideas, take initiative, and grow professionally.
  • Comprehensive social security benefits under the CAO Metalelektro.
