Department:

WDTech - R&D

We are Walker & Dunlop. We are one of the largest providers of capital to the commercial real estate industry, enabling real estate owners and operators to bring their visions of communities — where people live, work, shop, and play — to life. We are committed to creating meaningful social, environmental, and economic change in our communities.

Department Overview

WDTech is W&D’s in-house technology team – a group of collaborative and highly skilled technology professionals, all of whom are leading experts in real estate data, data science, and technology.

WDTech Engineering builds solutions that impact not only our products but also the people and processes across our organization. A commitment to innovation and a passion for disrupting the old-fashioned real estate industry are our highest priorities.

The Impact You Will Have

As a DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer on the WDTech SRE team, you will play a key role in transforming our infrastructure and operational practices. You will design, automate, and operate our cloud platform to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable systems. By enabling faster and more dependable deployments, you’ll empower our software feature teams through a self-service platform while driving improvements in reliability, observability, and security. You will also influence engineering strategies and introduce emerging technologies that elevate our infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and build secure, scalable, and efficient infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and GitOps practices.

  • Collaborate with software, data, and machine learning engineers to support cloud best practices and effective infrastructure use.

  • Evaluate and prototype emerging technologies to enhance operational capabilities.

  • Integrate cost and performance monitoring into cloud environments.

  • Continuously optimize AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure for reliability and efficiency.

  • Drive automation of infrastructure and operational processes.

  • Actively contribute to SRE/DevOps team initiatives, including knowledge sharing, best practices, and cross-functional projects.

  • Partner with colleagues across disciplines to deliver high-quality products.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 3+ years professional experience in a DevOps or SRE role.

  • 3+ years of cloud infrastructure experience (AWS or Azure preferred).

  • 1+ years of Kubernetes experience.

  • 1+ years of IaC experience (Terraform, Crossplane preferred).

  • Strong understanding of information security principles and practices.

  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Experience with large-scale databases and data processing tools (e.g., Amazon Athena, Redshift, Apache Airflow).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in building, scaling, and securing cloud environments.

  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, IaC tools, automation frameworks, and GitOps practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex concepts clearly in English.

  • Familiarity with monitoring, tracing, and observability practices.

  • Awareness of security standards, compliance considerations, and operational best practices (e.g., ISO27001, SOC2).

  • Ability to influence engineering strategy, collaborate effectively across teams, and drive adoption of best practices.

  • Knowledge of Python and scripting for automation.

  • Collaborative, team-first mindset with eagerness to learn and adapt.

  • Industry knowledge in the real estate domain is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence engineering strategy and collaborate across teams.

  • Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes

  • Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders

This position has an estimated base salary of $145,000 - $160,000 plus discretionary bonus. An employment offer is based on the applicant’s relevant work experience, applicable knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
