Your mission
We are Vertigo Games, developers and publishers of top-end VR titles like Metro Awakening, Arizona Sunshine, After the Fall and The 7th Guest. Our Amsterdam studio has started development of our next VR game, following Metro Awakening, and we are looking to recruit a Senior Narrative Designer who can aid us in our mission. The ideal candidate has experience working with an external writer, experience coordinating the narrative design process across all disciplines, hands-on narrative level design skills and proven writing skills.

Are you looking to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to steer the development of engaging narrative scenes for our groundbreaking VR games and experiences? Then we should meet!

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Develop the high-level story of the game in collaboration with IP holders, the game director, the writer and the team.
  • Work with the writer and level designers to iterate on the game’s script.
  • Be the go-to team member for all questions on the game’s story and the narrative development pipeline.
  • Support the production team in setting up planning and roadmaps for the narrative content, assisting with scope analysis and work breakdowns.
  • Create and maintain all story related documentation, including scripts for recording, narrative components of level design and concept briefings, character bios, world location definitions, VO tables etc.
  • Participate in actor performance capture recordings to ensure the narrative design considerations are taken into account during the recordings.
  • Implement narrative scenes into the levels in the Unreal Engine, including spatial level design, hooking up animations and dialogue using the sequencer and blueprints and managing the story related engine content.
Your profile
  • Several years of working experience in a design role on a successful narrative driven high quality action-adventure title.
  • Hands on knowledge of implementing story content in the Unreal Engine – familiarity with managing animation and audio data and hooking it up using the sequencer and blueprints.
  • Proven writing ability, from high level story shaping to screenplay and dialogue. Both solo and in collaboration with external writers and within IP lore.
  • Strong English communication and organizational skills tested by working across discipline in a team of 50+ people.
  • A problem solver who proactively identifies and resolves issues with the story itself as well as the workflow and pipelines.
Bonus points for
  • Experienced in participating in the performance capture process and offering feedback to actors.
  • Good understanding of the challenges and opportunities of writing for VR.
