MISSION TO METRICS

The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. To achieve our mission, we must effectively tell our story to a broad range of stakeholders.

The Ocean Cleanup is seeking a Creative Content Producer to join its Media Studio team. In this dynamic, field-focused role, you will create compelling video and photo content that brings our global cleanup missions to life. From concept to delivery, you’ll produce stories that inspire action and communicate our progress across social, digital, and event platforms. For the right candidate, this position offers a unique opportunity to manage the media team, overseeing workflow, team development, and project management to enhance our storytelling capabilities. The ideal candidate is an experienced field producer with strong storytelling instincts, technical versatility, and a hands-on approach — capable of filming, editing, and delivering content independently in challenging environments. You’ll travel worldwide to capture operations, coordinate shoots, and collaborate with partners and crew. This is a unique opportunity to combine creativity, production expertise, and purpose — helping to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.

THE ASSIGNMENT

The candidate will produce and deliver high-quality video content that showcases The Ocean Cleanup’s impactful activities, from initial concept development to final editing. This content will be tailored for social media, YouTube, presentations, and global events to effectively raise awareness and engagement. Responsibilities include filming, editing, and packaging short-form features and stories captured on location and at headquarters, highlighting the progress and impact of the organization’s efforts to remove plastics from the ocean. The role involves collaborating with partners and stakeholders worldwide to create compelling visual narratives that demonstrate the importance of the mission. Additionally, the candidate will participate in delivering professional livestream productions and on-site video coverage of key deployments, missions, and events, ensuring real-time storytelling that amplifies the organization’s work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate video productions at various global locations, including planning, logistics, and on-site execution.
  • Field produce and film content in diverse environments — from ocean deployments to river cleanup operations — ensuring safety, quality, and storytelling consistency.
  • Manage on-location crews, equipment, and schedules while adapting to dynamic field conditions and international travel demands.
  • For the right candidate, oversee and develop the media team, ensure collaboration, skill development, and high-quality output in all creative endeavors.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to align creative storytelling with The Ocean Cleanup’s mission and communication goals.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Even if you don’t meet every professional qualification listed, we strongly encourage you to apply if you believe you have the right skills, experience, and motivation to contribute to our mission. We recognize that talent and potential come in many forms, and we value diverse perspectives and unconventional career paths. If you’re passionate about the work we do and confident in your ability to make an impact, don’t hesitate to submit your application—we’d love to hear from you.
  • Outstanding editorial judgment and production skills, with the ability to plan, capture, and deliver compelling visual stories from concept to completion.
  • Proven experience in filming, photography, and editing — including the use of drones, action cameras, and other field production equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a “one-(wo)man band” — independently managing all aspects of production (shooting, sound, lighting, and postproduction) in the field.
  • Experience in executing large-scale and international video productions, often in challenging outdoor or marine environments.
  • Strong storytelling ability using video and photography to communicate complex scientific and environmental narratives in an engaging, authentic way.
  • Skilled in briefing and guiding non-professional or local contributors (e.g., crew, volunteers, or amateur reporters) to capture usable footage and maintain consistent visual standards.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable traveling frequently and working in fast-changing field conditions while upholding The Ocean Cleanup’s creative and technical standards.
  • Previous team lead or managerial experience would be of interest.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with strong communication and presentation skills. Additional languages are considered an advantage.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Adventurous and resilient mindset, comfortable working in unpredictable field environments such as offshore, riverside, or remote locations.
  • Highly self-sufficient and proactive — able to plan, problem-solve, and make creative decisions independently while maintaining high professional standards.
  • Collaborative and culturally aware, with the ability to work effectively alongside international teams, local partners, and community members.
  • Strong sense of purpose and alignment with The Ocean Cleanup’s mission to rid the world’s oceans of plastic — motivated by environmental impact and storytelling for change.
