SolarDuck is a Dutch-Norwegian company that is pioneering the technology to bring solar PV to the seas, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team.

As a spin-off of Damen Shipyards, a leading Dutch shipbuilder, SolarDuck was founded in 2019 by a team of experienced entrepreneurs from the maritime industry. We are headquartered in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and have a growing international presence with offices in Norway and Japan.

The Role

Join the SolarDuck team as our Lead Installation Engineer and play a key role in shaping the future of offshore solar energy. In this position, you’ll lead the development of new methods to enhance our projects, directly influencing the direction of our efforts in renewable energy. Picture yourself designing the plans that will energize the next generation. Your expertise in calculations will ensure the safe transport of our equipment over waters, becoming an essential part of our innovative efforts. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize robust, safe and solid installation plans and WMS;
  • Guide a team of engineers;
  • Understand Stability, Mooring design, Orcaflex analysis, towing analysis, etc;
  • Create and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for quality assurance;
  • Develop innovative offshore execution methods for our solar energy projects;
  • Drive the engineering process from drawing to calculation, ensuring technical excellence;
  • Prepare comprehensive subcontractor Scopes of Work;
  • Expertly create installation plans and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) strategies;
  • Develop mooring drawings and robust mooring designs, integrating structural and mechanical aspects;
  • Review and coordinate the assessment of internal and external deliverables, including drawings, reports, and procedures;
  • Conduct thorough engineering, technical project preparation, and execution support for installations;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring project excellence and innovation;
  • Engage in continuous improvement of installation techniques and methodologies;
  • Ensure compliance with international standards and environmental regulations;
  • Support, guide, or lead installation contractors during installation operations, this is optional.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field preferably maritime engineering/ naval architecture, coupled with 5+ years of experience in a similar field
  • Proven experience in offshore installation, particularly in renewables
  • Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD software
  • Familiarity with OrcaFlex software is highly advantageous
  • Expertise in structural and mechanical engineering principles
  • Proactive approach to innovating efficient and cost-effective solutions;
  • Ability to generate complex engineering drawings and calculations
  • Familiarity with industry standards and environmental compliance;
  • Ability to lead and influence people, build trust, and establish effective working relationships within a global organization.

  • Ability to work flexibly in a hybrid work environment.
