SolarDuck is a Dutch-Norwegian company that is pioneering the technology to bring solar PV to the seas, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team.

As a spin-off of Damen Shipyards, a leading Dutch shipbuilder, SolarDuck was founded in 2019 by a team of experienced entrepreneurs from the maritime industry. We are headquartered in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and have a growing international presence with offices in Norway and Japan.

Our vision is to Electrify the World with Offshore Floating Solar, and we have developed a unique technology to bring solar PV offshore. Thereby we enable access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and independent energy for energy consumers around the world.

The Role

As SolarDuck grows, we are excited to welcome a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will head up the engineering of mobile manufacturing facilities while driving advancements in fabrication and assembly techniques. You’ll be at the forefront of streamlining manufacturing procedures and guaranteeing adherence to safety regulations by utilizing Lean Six Sigma ideas and your background in logistics and automobile manufacturing. In this critical role, you will create the link between creative designs and practical realities, leading the creation of efficient assembly procedures, while nurturing a team crafted from the ground up. Your collaborative spirit will be key to fostering strong relationships among our Supply Chain, Engineering, and Project Management departments to streamline project delivery. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director our role is not just to lead, but to embody the innovative and daring spirit of SolarDuck, shaping a pathway to a brighter, cleaner future. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the initiative to engineer and establish a pop-up factory, considering the most efficient layouts and workflows to enhance production efficiency;
  • Develop and standardize fabrication and assembly methodologies from the ground up, steering the company towards more efficient processes;
  • Craft and uphold safety protocols, ensuring the well-being of the personnel at every stage of the assembly process;
  • Collaborate effectively with teams responsible for creating technical drawings and other relevant documentation, providing guidance and feedback to ensure alignment with the manufacturing setup and goals; 
  • Draw upon a rich background in the car, truck, or crane industry, or other automated production processes to inform strategies and decisions in the development of the pop-up factory; 
  • Provide technical support to operations to ensure seamless implementation of all plans.
  • Utilize lean-six sigma principles to drive continuous improvement, eliminate waste, and streamline processes to optimize production; 
  • Leverage experience in factory design to create an optimized manufacturing environment that meets industry standards and utilizes space effectively; 
  • Manage project timelines and budgets effectively, ensuring the optimal allocation of resources and meeting critical deadlines. 

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or manufacturing Engineering or a related field, coupled with 5+ years of experience in, Crane, Excavator, or Car production optimization, or similar;
  • The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in lean-six sigma principles, ideally holding a certification in Lean-six Sigma methodologies, and possess a proven track record of implementing these strategies to enhance operational efficiency and reduce waste;
  • Hands-on experience in planning and optimizing factory layouts to enhance operational efficiency;Proactive approach to innovating efficient and cost-effective solutions;
  • Capacity to translate paper designs to functional, efficient fabrication and assembly processes;
  • Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and process balancing;
  • Experience with leading a team of engineers.
