Carbon Mineralization Research Scientist

We are seeking an experienced Carbon Mineralization Research Scientist to focus on the study and optimization of Paebbl’s mineral carbonation process. This role involves conducting experiments and research to optimize Paebbl's current process as well as understanding the mechanisms of CO2 mineralization with various feedstocks.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree or equivalent in geochemistry, mineralogy, chemical engineering, or a related field, with a profound understanding of mineral structures and their properties, especially magnesium and calcium silicate minerals (e.g., olivine and serpentine).
  • Knowledge of chemical reactions, material properties, and the synthesis of new materials.
  • Expertise in analyzing reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and phase equilibria.
  • Expertise in using thermodynamic calculation engines (e.g. OLI, PHREEQC)
  • Proficiency in conducting laboratory experiments under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, as well as in the use of analytical instruments (e.g., XRD, SEM, XRF, TGA, ICP-OES, FTIR).
  • Ability to analyze experimental data, utilize statistical tools, and develop predictive models.
  • Project management skills in planning, executing, and managing research projects with adherence to timelines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English for communicating research findings to a broad group of multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, including collaboration with researchers from different scientific backgrounds, such as engineering, operations, and product development teams.

Role Overview:

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of chemical principles, practical laboratory skills, and the capability to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges in mineral dissolution and carbonation. The successful candidate will:

  • Design and conduct experiments on various scales, from laboratory to pilot.
  • Perform daily laboratory-scale research focusing on optimizing Paebbl’s process.
  • Develop and test new chemicals and additives to enhance the process's efficiency.
  • Utilize analytical techniques to characterize the composition and properties of products.
  • Develop numerical models to predict reaction efficiency.
  • Record and document research findings, ensuring clear communication of complex chemical concepts and processes to other teams.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, operators, product developers, and sales personnel, to integrate chemical solutions into the broader scale process.

This is an opportunity to work in a high-paced, pioneering company, shaping the CO2 removal and CO2-negative materials industries. We are an equal opportunities employer with a commitment to an inclusive work environment. We offer a competitive compensation package that includes:

  • A market-rate salary
  • Possibility to partake in our stock option program
  • Private healthcare insurance
  • An annual training and development budget
