Process Engineer

We are currently seeking a driven Process Engineer who loves to solve technical and non-technical problems, thrives on rapid change, and has a proven record of getting things done ridiculously fast.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering our continuous demonstration plant, which we plan to startup this year as well as develop our first-of-a-kind commercial-scale plant. This position requires a combination of technical and non-technical expertise, a very strong ability to listen to perspectives that are not your own, argue ideas clearly and constructively, intuitive attention to detail while being able to know when something is good enough, and, most importantly, the ability to thrive under constantly changing conditions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

You have:

  • A degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical / Process Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Materials Engineering. However, adjacent degrees such as physics, reservoir, petroleum, mechanical, or industrial engineering are also acceptable.
  • At least five years of hands-on operational experience within a manufacturing/production facility. You should be familiar with safety principles in design and operations. You should have solid, practical experience demonstrating your ability to comfortably task-switch between operational, maintenance, and technical needs.
  • Experience applying fundamental knowledge in engineering, operating, optimizing, and troubleshooting processes equipment such as reactors, heat exchangers, towers, separators, fractionation columns, pumps, compressors, instrumentation, or other industrial process equipment from adjacent industries.
  • Experience with or willingness to dive deep into mining or mining-adjacent technologies like milling, sizing, pumps, cyclones, presses, dryers, density separation, air classifiers, and filters.
  • Experience with the process of developing, designing, commissioning, and starting up a project. Prior experience working in a research or industrial laboratory setting is a plus.
  • You are able to quickly make first-principles-based calculations to estimate the order of magnitudes and test dependencies/sensitivities. You also have an unusual passion for making PFDs.
  • You have a positive, growth mindset. You are humble enough to recognize when you’re not succeeding, and you find ways to change your behavior.
  • An uncanny ability to quickly adapt to new situations, people, and ways of working. You don’t settle for being comfortable and seek accelerated growth. You have a fearless approach to learning new skills and are unafraid to fail.
  • You must have a strong ability to listen to perspectives other than your own and to argue ideas clearly, concisely, and constructively.
  • A strong ability to solve technical and non-technical problems and acrobat-like skills in effectively resolving conflicts with grace and a pinch of humor.
  • A healthy dose of impatience while being positive and collaborative, and the ability to make decisions and take action with limited information.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Design and Development: Together with the principal process engineer, deliver key project objectives for the successful design, construction, commissioning, and startup of the Demonstration plant by year-end. This includes our Enhanced Mineralization, Product Upgrade, and Materials Acquisition units.
  • Project Management: Being Captain of several Objectives and Key Results that will lead to the development of our First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) commercial plant.
  • Together with the automation lead, you will deliver key automation improvement objectives for the currently operational Pilot Plant and our Demonstration plant. You will also be instrumental in ensuring that key learnings from the execution of our automation roadmap are transferred to the feasibility study of our FOAK commercial plant.
  • Analyzing data obtained from production runs and R&D experiments and applying learnings quickly into our next design iteration.
  • You will work closely with other team members on R&D and Product Development initiatives to plan experiments and discuss results. You will also be responsible for providing technical support and insights to enhance research outcomes and ultimately transfer these insights into process design improvements.
  • Identify creative, breakthrough opportunities to reduce costs and improve our CO2 footprint.
  • Supporting LCA and carbon footprint certification of our product.
