About Orange Quantum Systems
At Orange Quantum Systems (OrangeQS), we accelerate the quantum revolution. We build industry-leading test and measurement hardware that enables quantum chip makers to test and benchmark their devices faster and more reliably.
While our physicists design quantum algorithms, our systems cannot operate without meticulous mechanical engineering, clean vacuum systems, and disciplined lab operations. We are looking for a hands-on MBO Level 4 intern to take charge of our cryostats and keep our laboratories running at peak performance.
Internship description
You will work directly alongside our system engineers and test operators, taking ownership of practical lab tasks:
Cryostat Operations:
- Assemble, mount, and disassemble sub-components inside dilution refrigerators and cryogenic test setups.
- Operate vacuum pumping stations, conduct helium leak checks, and verify vacuum integrity.
- Monitor cooldown and warmup cycles, logging temperatures and pressures.
- Assist with routine maintenance, cryogen handling, and hardware troubleshooting.
Facility & Lab Management:
- Maintain and organize the lab workspace, ensuring tools, cleanroom equipment, and parts are properly stored and ready to use.
- Manage inventory for consumables, fittings, vacuum seals, and specialized hardware.
- Support safety compliance, delivery intake, and workspace ergonomics.
Your profile
- Currently enrolled in an MBO Level 4 program (such as Mechatronica, Fijnmechanica, Middenkader Engineering /Werktuigbouwkunde, Elektrotechniek, or Laboratoriumtechniek / Applied Science).
- A natural tinkerer who loves working with their hands, using precision tools, and solving mechanical or electrical problems.
- Structured, neat, and detail-oriented. You understand why cleanliness, torque specifications, and vacuum seals matter.
- A proactive communicator with a good working command of English or Dutch.
- Available for a full-time working internship (meewerkstage).
What can you expect from us?
- Direct Career Opportunity: We have budget and intent to convert this internship into a permanent, full-time contract upon graduation.
- Real Responsibility: You will directly operate and maintain mission-critical, cutting-edge cryogenic systems.
- Dedicated Mentorship: 1-on-1 coaching from experienced hardware engineers and lab technicians.
- Competitive Compensation: Fair internship allowance (stagevergoeding) and travel reimbursement.
- Scale-Up Culture: A collaborative, open-door environment in the heart of the Delft quantum tech hub, with regular team events and lunches.
