Job Description / Mission:
The Senior Airframe Design Engineer is leading the design activities for an airframe component / work package such as the fuselage section, wing sub-assemblies and flight control surfaces within a multifunctional product development team. The role is responsible for the planning of the design activities according to program quality gates and defined deliverables. This includes the integration and coordination of other engineering functions, the supply chain contribution and leadership in the technical objectives as well as the operational progress. The role mission is to apply best practice concerning the way of working in the different development phases. Key objective is to achieve effective design principles and material selection to reach the functional requirements and cost targets. The Senior Airframe Design Engineer has an excellent understanding of the development process including industrialisation and verification of design for certification. The role is a part of the design organisation technical delegation aiming to demonstrate compliance of the design according to certification requirements.
Tasks
- Planning of the required activities, competences and capabilities according to the defined deliverables
- Leading the allocated resources within an airframe work package to ensure deliverables
- Establish design concepts, lead trade studies and prepare design assessment reviews
- Ensure design manufacturability according to the selected supply chain capabilities
- Define the design verification road map and required test plan
- Ensure structural integrity by optimising the weight and performance of the airframe component
- Propose optimisations for both weight improvement and design to cost
- Ensure design organisation check procedures are in place and monitor progress according to programme requirements to ensure deliverables in time and quality
- Support and propose opportunities for digitalisation and automatization of airframe design processes.
Requirements
- Engineering degree (BSc/MSc/Eng) in aeronautics/aerospace/mechanical engineering
- Recognised expertise in the field of airframe design and structure design principles of metal and composite materials
- Fundamental understanding of the development process and requirements in the large aircraft category (CS-25)
- Wide proficiency in airframe requirements, sizing criteria, materials, methods & CAD tools; relevant experience in PLM platforms application
- >10 years professional expertise in relevant perimeters of airframe design
- New product development experience in at least one new aircraft programme
- Communication and project leadership skills
- Ability to prioritise, manage and execute multiple simultaneous tasks
- Assertive, pro-active, innovative and creative.
