Multiphysics & Data Scientist
LeydenJar
Job description
About LeydenJar
At LeydenJar Technologies, we’re on a mission to redefine the future of energy storage. Our goal is to become the world’s innovation leader in advanced battery anodes, empowering the next generation of batteries that drive progress.
Why does this matter? Because the world needs higher energy density batteries not just for better consumer electronics, but for electric vehicles, e-flight, and beyond. While the battery industry typically advances by only 3% per year, our breakthrough pure silicon anode technology delivers an improvement of up to 70%, a true game changer. Often called the “holy grail” of the battery industry, our technology unlocks new possibilities for electrification, sustainability, and resilience in global supply chains.
What we do:
We produce pure silicon anode rolls that fit seamlessly into existing battery cell manufacturing lines, enabling customers to make a quantum leap in performance or create entirely new product categories.
Our initial focus is on consumer electronics, with automotive applications already in development.
By leveraging semiconductor thin-film technology (plasma deposition) and scaling it to battery anodes, we’ve overcome the long-standing challenges of silicon in batteries, delivering durability and efficiency at scale.
To meet global demand, we’re scaling up:
PlantOne in Eindhoven opens in 2026, producing anode rolls and validating our roll-to-roll production tools.
PlantTwo, our large-scale production facility, will follow, establishing LeydenJar as a key player in the global battery market.
This is an enormous opportunity and an ambitious journey. It requires bold, creative, and diverse minds who share our passion for innovation and sustainability. At LeydenJar, we value different perspectives, inclusive collaboration, and gender equality because we know that diversity fuels breakthrough ideas.
To accelerate our understanding and unlock new breakthroughs, we are hiring a Multiphysics & Data Scientist to join our Product Development team. This role sits at the intersection of physics, modeling, material science, and advanced data analytics—driving innovation across our silicon anode technology roadmap.
Your mission
In this role, you will be responsible for deepening our scientific and practical understanding of pure Si anodes through modeling, experimentation, and data‑driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
Advance our scientific understanding of pure silicon anode behavior through multiphysics modeling, simulations, and advanced data analysis.
Design, prototype, and experimentally validate novel silicon anode concepts in close collaboration with material, process, and equipment teams.
Develop, maintain, and scale models that link physical behavior to anode performance.
Build and strengthen a global network of research partners, including universities, institutes, and industrial collaborators, representing LeydenJar in joint research programs.
Translate insights into actionable directions for material development, process optimization, and product performance improvements.
You will report to the VP Product Development and your skills will complement dynamic team of Materials and Plasma Scientists, and Engineers. You will be working in a dynamic scale-up environment as part of an international, ambitious and diverse team that is determined to make a better world with cleaner energy. You will gain valuable, on-the-job experience in a scale-up multi-national company, where no day is ever the same. Your primary location will be Eindhoven with occasional travel.
Job requirements
What do we expect from you?:
MSc in physics, materials science, thin‑film technology, electrochemistry, or a related field (thin‑film background strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience in multiphysics modeling (e.g., COMSOL, Ansys, or equivalent).
Data science experience, including machine learning models development, advanced analytics, and interpretation of complex datasets.
Strong Python literacy, especially for scientific computing, modeling, and data analysis.
A track record of working in experimental environments and translating simulations into real‑world testing.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both internal teams and external academic/industrial partners.
Preferably:
Experience with PECVD processing and lithium-ion battery technology.
Understanding of manufacturing of thin film devices.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
