HousingAnywhere is Europe’s largest rental accommodation marketplace. With the full ownership of Kamernet and the acquisition of majority stakes of Studapart, the company represents 30 million+ yearly unique visitors, 160,000+ properties available for rent and 100,000+ tenants finding their new homes in Europe, based on the 2022 performance. Young professionals and students, mostly aged between 18 and 35, looking to rent a home are matched with accommodation providers; ranging from private real estate owners to large-scale property managers. Through its advanced platform, tenants typically book longer stays outside of their country of origin and rent accommodation for 3 to 12 months. The Rotterdam-based technology scale-up currently employs 260 people.

The team:

The Product Development team at HousingAnywhere is organised in Product Engineering, Platform Engineering and Data Science and Engineering. The Core API team is part of the Product Engineering team, and strictly collaborates with the different product teams. The mission of the Core API Team teams is to evolve HousingAnywhere into a Rental Platform, which exposes the core domains, through a seamless API, and that is used as Core Platform for all Products in HousingAnywhere.

Our stack:

• At the Backend we mostly use Go, Postgres and Redis. At the Frontend we use React, Typescript, NodeJs.
• Our infrastructure runs on GCP, and we are heavy users of Kubernetes.
• Our Architecture is a distributed architecture made of several “Modular Monoliths”.
• We practise DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Domain Driven Design and Contract Driven Development.

Your role and impact:

We expect you to lead the evolution of HousingAnywhere with your vision, and to leverage on the talent present in your team to achieve that. We expect you to be technical however, we don’t expect the Engineering Manager to do heavy hands-on work, but rather set the right technical direction.

You can expect an effort of 40% spent in people management, 50% spent in management of projects and design solutions, 10% coding and/or helping others through pair programming or code reviews.

The role can be described in four pillars.

Delivery

Lead and enable your team to deliver effectively and on time through smooth execution on the project. Identigy and remove unnecessary waste of time, and impediments through human developer experience and processes. Lead your team to scope, plan projects, identify bottlenecks, and improve processes. Ensure engineering standards are held above what is expected.

Direction

Create alignment and the right sernce of urgency in your team through well-crafted strategies, plans, and goals. Direct your team to relate their work to the impact it can produce by aligning with the technical strategy and organisational goals. Help decision making by providing a clear sense of direction. Craft well aligned purpose and mission statements for your team.

Talent

Nurture talent in your team with regular feedback and performance reviews, and support their career growth within HousingAnywhere. Identify knowledge and skill gaps, plan and execute effective hiring strategies to acquire top talent for your team.

Culture

Lead by example and foster a culture of ownership, empowerment, and autonomy within our team. Create opportunities for team bonding, promote a growth mindset, and value diverse perspectives. Address any problems and promote a healthy team culture.

Craft

Equip your team to solve problems effectively with pragmatic and sustainable solutions. Foster engineering and operational excellence, support practices, high-quality engineering principles, and knowledge-sharing. Develop your team’s technical knowledge to stay up to date with the latest trand and the company technical vision and standard.

Who we look for

You have several years of experience in the field, focused on building, maintaining complex domains and distributed architectures. You provide strong recent experience in managing high performing, diverse and inclusive teams. We expect strong knowledge in Distributed Systems, and Domain Driven Design.
