About GreenAnt

GreenAnt is a climate-tech company developing advanced flood-risk intelligence and decision-support solutions for climate adaptation, resilience planning, and parametric risk instruments. We combine physical modelling, remote sensing, and data science to translate extreme weather risks into actionable insights for insurers, governments, and communities worldwide.

The Role

We are hiring a Flood Modelling Scientist to join our R&D team in a key scientific role. You will report directly to the CTO and take ownership of flood-related modelling research within GreenAnt. This role is designed to grow into a Lead Scientist / Domain Owner position, with strong influence on our scientific direction, product roadmap, and external collaborations.

The Impact You’ll make

  • Lead the development, calibration, and backtesting of GreenAnt’s in-house hydrological–hydrodynamic flood models
  • Quantify rainfall–flood thresholds, flood extents, and extreme-event impacts under present and future climate scenarios
  • Integrate climate data, remote sensing, and in-situ observations into modelling workflows
  • Collaborate closely with software developers and data scientists to translate scientific models into operational tools and products
  • Engage with stakeholders and clients, clearly communicating scientific results and uncertainties to non-experts

Essential Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Modelling, Remote Sensing, or Earth Sciences
  • Deep understanding in flood processes, hydrology, and/or hydrodynamics
  • Extensive experience with scientific computing and geospatial analysis, ideally in Python
  • Ability to explain complex model results clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Proactive, independent, and collaborative working style in an interdisciplinary team

Desirable Experience

  • Hands-on experience with hydrological models, such as:
  • Wflow, SWAT, HBV, LISFLOOD, HEC-HMS
  • Experience with hydrodynamic / floodplain models, such as:
  • SFINCS, LISFLOOD-FP, HEC-RAS (2D), TUFLOW, Delft3D-FM
  • Working with large environmental and climate datasets (e.g. ERA5 reanalysis, satellite products, and climate-model outputs)
  • Use of remote sensing / satellite imagery (e.g. SAR, optical) for flood extent mapping or validation
  • Experience with HPC or cloud computing environments
  • Experience in hybrid approaches, combining physical models with AI/ML (e.g. graph neural networks)
  • Exposure to industrial or applied contexts, such as insurance, climate risk, or risk management

What You’ll Get

  • Remote and flexible working arrangements
  • A science-driven environment where you can publish, attend conferences/workshops, and remain scientifically active
  • The opportunity to turn cutting-edge research into real-world decisions and products
  • A small, agile R&D team where your ideas have direct impact

Strong ownership, autonomy, and a clear path to scientific leadership
