Job description

Are you a software engineer who thinks the last mile of analytics deserves better than an email with a spreadsheet attached?

Crunch builds the data-driven companies of tomorrow. Behind the scenes that means forecasts, optimization models, and AI agents. But people don't use models. People use applications. We are looking for the engineer who builds that final, decisive layer: the screen where a planner, buyer, or manager actually takes the decision.

That means treating UI, UX, and engineering as one discipline, not three departments.

As a Software Engineer for Analytical Applications, you build the tools our clients open every morning. Generative BI interfaces where you converse with your data instead of hunting through it. Planning cockpits where a forecast, its uncertainty, and the recommended action sit on one screen. Approval flows where a human confirms, overrides, or corrects what a model proposes, and the result flows straight back into the business process. You know that a data-intensive application lives or dies on details: perceived speed, progressive disclosure, a table that stays readable at 10,000 rows. And you can actually build those details, not just point at them in Figma.

In your role, you sit between our data scientists, AI engineers, and the client's daily reality. Your job is making the clever stuff usable.

What will be part of your responsibilities?

  • Design and build web applications on top of our data platforms: decision cockpits, generative BI front-ends, what-if tools;

  • Integrate those applications into real business processes: write-backs to ERP, approval workflows, alerts where people already work;

  • Make model output understandable on screen: uncertainty, confidence, and the "why" behind a recommendation, without drowning the user;

  • Own the full slice: front-end, API layer, and the glue to the data platform underneath;

  • Choose the right weight for the job: full custom build, Streamlit prototype, or low-code, and defend that choice;

  • Prototype fast for sales and pilots, then harden what wins into production software;

  • Push the whole team's bar on UX. If a first-time user needs a manual, you're not done.

Above all, you measure your work by adoption. Not by demos, not by deploys: by people choosing to open your application again tomorrow.

Our offer

First off, you will become part of a steadily growing team of people keen on applying the latest technologies and techniques in the fields of data science, machine learning & AI. You will work in a vibrant, innovation-loving environment with the proper dash of geekiness and love for board games.

While you will be able to work both at the office (in Gent or in Rotterdam) or at home, your presence might also be required on-site with clients. Our offices in Ghent and Rotterdam are easy to reach, located in a colorful neighborhood of each city center, close to a vast array of after-work shenanigans.

We provide an attractive salary package stuffed with additional benefits such as an (optional) company car & fuel card, smartphone, and other gear. We help you to get around either by car, train, and/or e-bike. It's yours to choose.

We put a lot of time and effort into your personal growth and development, both as a technician and business professional. We provide dedicated feedback and coaching sessions to help you walk the career path you envisage. Expect your own talent development roadmap and the opportunity to showcase your knowledge to a broader engineering community.

On top of that, we do team trips, planned events, ad-hoc events, anything really to ensure you shine within a thriving team.

Up for the challenge?

Apply now and we'll review your application, and may invite you for an initial phone interview. A job-specific challenge and presentation later, you could be the engineer who turns our models into the tab nobody closes!

Job requirements

Required Skills

  • Strong front-end engineering skills (TypeScript, React or similar) and the design sense to use them well;

  • Solid back-end and API experience (Python or comparable), comfortable working close to databases and data platforms;

  • A demonstrated eye for UI and UX in data-heavy contexts: you can show us something you built that people enjoyed using;

  • Pragmatism about performance: you know why an interface feels fast, and how to keep it that way with serious data behind it;

  • You are fluent in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience building LLM-powered or conversational interfaces;

  • Familiarity with data visualization beyond chart libraries' defaults;

  • Experience with Databricks, dbt, or modern data platforms as a consumer;

  • Exposure to low-code tools (Streamlit, Retool, Power Apps) and clear opinions on their limits;

  • Experience in a consultancy or client-facing environment;

  • Speaking Dutch is a definite plus. French is also nice to have.
