About the Virtual Tech division and R&D team
The Virtual Tech division (VTD) is one of Ampelmann’s most innovative departments, working daily with emerging technologies. The team creates high-quality visual content, simulation tools, and VR/AR training environments that support internal and external operations. From rendered videos to immersive training solutions, the VTD enhances Ampelmann’s capabilities with state-of-the-art digital technology.
The Research and Development (R&D) team is the breeding ground for new technologies applied in our systems. From development of new control systems, making virtual test environments, creating smart tools for our engineering department to working on autonomous features with vision and LiDAR systems.
Your role as Work Student VT (Virtual Tech) Developer
As a Work Student VT (Virtual Tech) Developer within the VTD, you will be the bridge between The VTD and R&D department. Within the simulation environment in Unity of the VTD, you will work on creating new simulations of new technologies developed by the R&D team. This includes simulating LiDARS and camera streams, simulating challenging offshore scenarios, and performing tests with operators to improve the user experience of new features of our motion compensated gangways.
Regular activities
Design, develop, and maintain real-time applications in Unity.
Integrate 3D models, animations, and interactive systems into simulation projects.
Optimize performance and ensure stable, high-quality visual output.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and external partners to deliver innovative solutions.
Help define and standardize the Virtual Tech development pipeline.
We ask
Currently enrolled at HBO or WO level in Computer Sciences, Software Engineering or related study
Experience with Unity (C#) and real-time 3D development
Familiarity with programming languages and frameworks (Python, ROS)
Knowledge of version control (e.g. Git)
Excellent communication skills in English
Availability for a period of at least 6 months, 2 or more days per week
