About the Research & Development Team
The Research and Development team is part of the Innovations Department and is responsible for exploring new technologies and developing advanced control-platform software, to make our offshore access solutions even more future proof and to serve our clients' needs. In other words: Research & Development control systems engineers create the smooth, efficient and safe actuation of our fleet! The R&D team consists of 7 engineers, covering fields of advanced and robust drive-controls, efficient energy storage and regeneration, vision systems, safety, simulations, algorithm- and engineering-tools development. The team explores and sets the standards for our modular design approach. In this role, you will report to the R&D Manager, and daily to the Lead Engineer.
Your role as Senior Control Systems Engineer
Working in bi-weekly sprints, you will design and develop controls for our Ampelmann systems. As Senior Control Systems Engineer you will work closely together in a team of highly skilled engineers. You set the standard for our control platform, and you are the go-to person for complex software control related questions. As Senior Control Systems Engineer, you are responsible for everything that is needed to make our systems move. This includes electric, hydraulic and software standards. To quickly build systems with the highest safety standards we are continuously developing and improving our modular design platform, while speeding up the transition to fully electrifying our fleet. As Senior Control Systems Engineer, you get the chance to test and implement new features in an early development stage.
Regular activities
- Design, develop, implement and test actuator and machine controls.
- Set, review and maintain our motion control software standard together with our motion control engineers within the Innovations department.
- Analyse data and performance of our current and new fleet, design and implement control and performance improvements to optimize our fleet.
- Assist with your drive controls experience on tuning and analysing our control systems in Rotterdam and occasionally offshore.
- Develop the test setups of our control systems.
- Share and maintain knowledge on machine safe operations and control standards.
- Coach and train your Motion Control colleagues on personal and professional development.
- BSc or MSc degree in Mechatronics, Systems & Control, Mechanical-, Electrical-, or Aerospace engineering.
- > 5 years of work experience with control systems.
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
- Analytical and proactive attitude.
- Proven experience with design and implementation of actuator controls in (offshore) machinery.
- Broad experience with PLC and servo drive program design, development, testing and tuning, Python and/or Matlab, and Siemens TIA portal, preferably with Startdrive or similar.
- Knowledge of industrial networks and their communication protocols (i.e. UDP, OPC, TCP-IP, PN-RT).

- Monthly gross salary between EUR 4.283 - EUR 6.120 based on your experience.
